Alien sinmint cookies in Muskoka

Spotlight: Alien Sinmint Cookies by BLKMKT

This small batch bud packs a serious punch

by: Kacy Fortella

October 26, 2021

With a name like  ‘Alien Sinmint Cookies,’ I had to give this one a try! This strain is an indica-dominant hybrid with a THC range of 21 to 27 per cent. For this specific strain the terpenes are the star of the show, not necessarily the THC percentage. The dominant terpenes in this Alien Sinmint Cookies lot were β-Pinene, Limonene, 3-Carene and β-Caryophyllene. If you are someone who enjoys discovering the different flavour profiles of flower or are making your way from casual smoker to connoisseur toker, look no further. Here is what I thought about Alien Sinmint Cookies.

Appearance

If the packaging alone doesn’t scream top-shelf-bud, the frosty coating surrounding the large nugs should. Immediately after opening the premium packaging, I was delighted by the aromas wafting from the mouth of the container. I picked up on the mint instantly followed by a sweet, almost fruity, fragrance.

Smoking Experience

A clean glass blunt was filled with freshly ground flower and lit. The first thing that entered my mind was the cleanness of that initial hit. It almost reminded me of the Kush Mint 510 vape cart; that cool soothing feeling you’d get from menthol. Obviously not as cool or icy, but the similarities came from the smoothness and lightness when using the glass blunt. There was a sweet flavor throughout the sesh, but it took a back-seat when compared to the mint.

For comparison, a joint was rolled as well to see if the clean hit was thanks to the glass blunt or the minty profile. Although the joint didn’t feel as cool or icy, it was still smooth, light and felt clean (as far as joints go). However, with both smoking methods I did notice that the ‘cookies’ taste showed up a lot more at the end of both smoking experiences. Maybe it was the higher temperatures it was inhaled at near the end that let the cookies really shine through? Or, maybe I was just high by that point and finally noticed the cookies? So, for scientific purposes, I smoked it again the next night (and rolled a shorter joint) and found that the cookies really do show up at the end.

Effects

The effects were instant and pretty strong. The first leg of the high was euphoric and pretty uplifting. At times I felt locked in to a Netflix documentary that was on in the background. Half way through the documentary I was questioning the indica part in this indica-dominant hybrid strain; until it hit me with a force that was out of this world. Alien Sinmint Cookies quite literally smacked me in the frontal lobe and into the couch. I leaned back into the cushions and felt as if I had melted into it, like warm butter. It was at that moment Alien Sinmint Cookies became one of my favourite strains.

Alien Sinmint Cookies was super flavourful, had wonderful effects and worth the premium price-tag in my opinion. If you like a smooth hitting strain I highly recommend giving this a try!

Spotlight: Ripple Dissolvable Powder

A different kind of nightcap

by: Kacy Fortella

October 18, 2021

Wow...I did not expect to get that high with this one! Over the 2021 Bala Cranberry Festival weekend I made a Crannabis Cocktail using Ripple. Ripple is a dissolvable powder made by The Green Organic Dutchman that transforms any drink into a cannabis infused beverage. In this particular canna-cocktail, I used the entire package which contained 10mg THC.

The powder came in a slim, easy-to-pour package that was similar to a Crystal Lite packet. After adding the powder to my cranberry concoction and stirring thoroughly, I was excited to try it. Maybe it was the bubbliness of the ginger ale, tartness of the cranberry juice or sweetness of the orange juice in the beverage that hid the taste of cannabis so well. At this point, I was anticipating finding all of the powder at the bottom of the glass or having the end of the drink taste more like cannabis; but there was no ‘weed’ taste.

Ripple dissolved evenly throughout this cocktail with no leftover residue at the end. I was very impressed with how well it dissolved and how little I tasted that ‘weed’ taste. I was even more impressed with how much of a punch it truly packed.

Within 15-30 minutes of finishing the Crannabis Cocktail I started feeling the effects. The first stage was total relaxation. I went from standing, to slowly leaning on the kitchen counter, to sitting at the bar seats. I could feel my entire body relaxing and the tension floating away.

Then I got really really high. I was surprised with the level Ripple took me to, as it was 10mg THC and normally I wouldn’t experience such a strong high. As a person with experience consuming cannabis, I was happy and comfortable being at that level. It was pleasant and gave an all around good experience. For me, it started with a strong body-high followed by a head-high. By the time the head-high arrived I was already tucked into bed!

If you are interested in trying this product out, I would highly suggest considering using only half the Ripple packet at first. Take into consideration your own personal tolerance and always remember to start low and go slow!

For the Wake Crannabis Cocktail you will need:

Cranberry Juice or Cranberry Cocktail (whichever you prefer!)

Orange Juice

Ginger Ale

Cranberries

In a glass with ice, combine two parts cranberry juice/cocktail to one part orange juice. Once you have your desired volume, top it off with some ginger ale and then add Ripple. Throw some cranberries in and enjoy!

The limits are endless when experimenting with Ripple!

Spotlight: Mollo Cannabis Beverage

The alternative beer option

by: Kacy Fortella

October 15, 2021

As a person who favours cannabis over alcohol, I was pleasantly surprised with Mollo. Mollo is a 1:1 balanced cannabis beverage that has 5mg Total THC and 5 mg Total CBD...and it tastes like beer! Its crisp, light, slightly hoppy flavour makes for an overall enjoyable drinking experience.

Packaging:

The bottle Mollo comes in is a dark stubby and reminds me a lot of an old, classic beer. The stubby bottle coupled with the blue and gold label give Mollo a very vintage look, which is reflected in the entire drinking experience. Mollo is a great beverage option for someone looking for the familiarity of drinking beer without the effects of alcohol.

Taste:

I am no beer expert; however my tastes are refined enough to know that there is a slight sweetness to it that reminds me of caramel or even kettle corn, but not overly sweet; you really have to pay attention to the end notes and how it finishes in order to get that taste. As far as bitterness goes, I was pleasantly surprised by the lack of it. Considering Mollo is a cannabis beverage, and typically there is a slight bitterness to most cannabis beverages, I didn’t find any unenjoyable bitterness. The “weed taste” was nonexistent in this cannabis beverage!

Drinkability:

Mollo’s drinkability is effortless for those who are in the market for a good non-alcoholic beer option. Not only do you get the taste of beer, you get the effect of cannabis. The effects of this beverage were mellow and relaxing, perfect for a dockside, lakeside or fireside social gathering. I also appreciated that Mollo came in a standard 355 mL bottle. This made drinking it at a slower and sociable pace natural, enjoyable and comfortable.

Reasons to try Mollo:

Mollo is a great non-alcoholic beverage option because you can still feel effects, it just comes from cannabinoids rather than alcohol. The list of reasons people decide to skip alcohol is endless. Outside of substance use disorder (SUD), reasons to not drink can stem from an allergy or intolerance to alcohol, a dislike of its effects, health related issues or other factors that drive people away from consuming it.

Final Thoughts:

Mollo is a good non-alcoholic beverage to try if you prefer the effects of cannabis and want to enjoy a cold one at the end of the day or in a social gathering. It’s light, crisp and not obnoxious in taste like a bitter IPA would be. A must try!
